How to use the salary calculator
Enter your pay and choose the period it is for: an hour, a day, a week, two weeks, half a month, a month, a quarter or a year. Then enter the hours and days you work each week and your paid holidays and vacation days. The calculator converts the pay into every other period, both unadjusted and adjusted for days off. All amounts are before tax.
Salary conversion formula
A year has 52 weeks, so with a 40-hour, 5-day week there are 2,080 working hours and 260 working days. Annual pay = hourly rate × hours per week × 52, and hourly rate = annual salary ÷ (hours per week × 52). Divide the annual pay by 12 for the monthly pay, by 24 for semi-monthly, by 26 for bi-weekly and by 52 for weekly pay.
Salary calculator example
An hourly rate of $50 is $50 × 2,080 = $104,000 a year, $8,666.67 a month, $4,000.00 every two weeks and $2,000.00 a week. These are the default inputs of the calculator.
Unadjusted and adjusted pay
The unadjusted pay counts every workday of the year. The adjusted pay takes out the paid holidays and vacation days. With 10 holidays and 15 vacation days you work 235 of the 260 days.
- An hourly or daily rate is taken as unadjusted: you are paid only for the hours you work. At $50 an hour with 25 days off unpaid, you earn $94,000 a year, the same as a salaried job paying $45.19 an hour with paid days off.
- A weekly, monthly or yearly salary is taken as adjusted: it already pays you for your days off. A $104,000 salary is $50.00 an hour over all 2,080 hours, but $55.32 for each hour you actually work.
