Using the scientific calculator
This free online scientific calculator handles everything from simple arithmetic to trigonometry, logarithms, powers and roots. You can click the buttons or type with your keyboard, and every result is saved in the history so you can reuse it.
Functions
- Deg / Rad switches the angle unit for sin, cos, tan and their inverses.
- xʸ raises to any power; x², √ and ∛ are shortcuts.
- ln is the natural logarithm (base e), log is base 10, n! is the factorial.
- π and e insert the constants 3.14159… and 2.71828….
- Brackets close automatically when you press =.
- Multiplication can be implied:
2πor3(4+1)work as expected.
Order of operations
The calculator follows the standard order: brackets first, then powers and roots, then multiplication and division, and finally addition and subtraction, from left to right. For example, 2 + 3 × 4 equals 14, not 20, and(2 + 3) × 4 equals 20.
Degrees vs radians
A full circle is 360 degrees or 2π radians. In degree mode sin(30) = 0.5; in radian mode you would enter sin(π/6) for the same angle. If a trigonometry answer looks wrong, check which mode is selected.
Examples
2^10= 1,024√(144)= 12log(1000)= 3 andln(e)= 15!= 120sin(30)in degree mode = 0.5
Keyboard shortcuts
Type digits and the operators + − * / directly. Press Enter for equals, Backspace to delete the last character and Esc to clear. Brackets, %, ! and ^ also work from the keyboard, and P inserts π.
Frequently asked questions
How do I switch between degrees and radians?
Use the Deg / Rad switch. Degrees are used for everyday angles, radians in most higher math and physics.
Does the calculator follow the order of operations?
Yes. Brackets come first, then powers and roots, then multiplication and division, then addition and subtraction.
What is the difference between log and ln?
log is the logarithm with base 10, so log(100) = 2. ln is the natural logarithm with base e (about 2.718), so ln(e) = 1.
Can I type with my keyboard?
Yes. Digits, + − * /, brackets, %, ! and ^ all work, Enter gives the result, Backspace deletes and Esc clears.
